People risk horrors en route to Europe because they have to, not because they want to

Extreme poverty is one of the driving forces behind the surge in boat migration in the Mediterranean to reach Europe, “The majority of those crossing the Mediterranean are taking terrible risks because they have to, not because they want to,”.

If our youths are empowered with productive income generating skills that promote their full participation in the economy, enhance their social position within their communities, raise their material standards of living, they will say no to back way and avoid taking terrible risks crossing the Mediterranean because they don’t want to, not because they have to.”
